Gianni Marchetti was born in Rome on the 7th of  September 1933, gradauted in music and debuted as composer and orchestra conductor in 1956, reaching a sucess with various songs that are evergreen till the present day.  Among them Nico FIdenco's  "Legata a un granello di sabbia" Bobby Solo's "Una lacrima sul viso" and "Se piangi, se ridi", Celentano's "Il tangaccio", Gens' "In fondo al viale" and many more.  He was the founder of Italian RCA. He was responsible at the artisti department of Roman "Dischi Ricordi" and Campi editore's discographical section.

He recorded in Rome, Paris, New York e Los Angeles the soundtracks of over 60 film, numerous intrumental albums and various albums for The Yardbirds, Bobby Winton, Dalida, Sergio Bruni, Nada ("Ho scoperto che esisto anch'io"  "Nada", featuring songs by Piero Ciampi and Marchetti, Paolo Conte and Renzo Zenobi) and many others.

For cinema he scored films such as Top Crack (1966), Die Slowly, You'll Enjoy It More (1967), Kill Me Quick, I'm Cold (1967), Un killer per sua maestà (1968),  One Step to Hell (1968), The Magnificent Tony Carrera  (1968),  Il diario segreto di una minorenne (1968) Congo Hell (aka The Seven Red Berets) in 1969 ad continued in the 70's and to a lesser degree in the 1980's.

In his last years he spent his artistic life between Italy and France, where he had initiated a series of conference-concertos aimed at promoting the works of Muzio Clementi, "the father of grandpiano".  He also brought to life the "Roma per la musica d'arte" work-group, dedicated to spread  the work of Clemenzi and other great musicians.
