Luke, a young farmer, an excellent crack-shot, gets drunk and accepts the challenge to

hit an apple on the head of his only son,Junior, at a distance of twenty paces. His

hand is trembling and he kills the boy. He begins to drink out of remorse,and, a victim

of alcohol, he ends up in the gang of a little bandit, Antonio Pancaldo.

Following on the suggestions of Sergeant Hernandez, who needs a scapecoat,

Ronaldo chooses Luke, without hesitation.He has to kill a person, and then, altough

he doesn't know it, he will be condemned to death. Luke carries out his orders and

goes to a Mexican town, where he meets an Indian woman and her son Manuel, a

child of about six years old. They both get fond of eachother.Shirtly afterwards

Antonio Pancaldo tells him that the person he has to kill is Manuel.
